Objectives of the Project

In order to achieve the general goal stated above, the Project partners shall address specifically projects under the ‘transnational cooperation projects’ heading. More specifically, the following objectives shall be addressed:

a) The setting up of information, consultation and participation structures, including in particular European Works Councils in the wider context of the European Company and the European Co-operative Society for the establishment of European Works Councils in small, new EU member states,

and,

b) The promotion of transnational actions and initiatives involving representatives of the small, new EU member states of candidate countries in the field of information, consultation and participation of representatives of undertakings.

These objectives have been short-listed from the generic set of objectives presented in the call on various criteria including, amongst other things, the need to set up and streamline systematic information, consultation and participation structures founded on established best-practices and targeted for small, new EU member states to promote and facilitate the setting up of new European Works Councils.

Potential Lasting Impact

This Project shall have a lasting impact not only in the countries in which it was carried out, but also, and more importantly across the wider European Union, particularly the new member states. This is ensured by the project website which shall continue to exist beyond the project deadline, the promotion and information desks which, after the project deadline shall be incorporated into the regular functions of the organisations who have participated in this project, and the proactive project dissemination strategy.

Multiplier Effect

One core objective of this project is the transfer of information and know how from organisations who are already familiar and experienced in European Works Councils, to other organisations who have not yet received that exposure. This transfer of know-how which is the multiplier effect of this project is achieved through the seminars, the information and promotion desks, the final conference and the dissemination strategy.

Expected Results

The successful implementation of this project is expected to result in improved levels of information among representatives of undertakings on the existing mechanisms of information, consultation and participation on the European level. It is also envisaged that the successful implementation of the project will strengthen the existing momentum for the European Works Councils, primarily in the targeted areas, and eventually across the European Union. In more specific terms, the successful implementation of this project should result in more community-scale undertakings setting up or joining European Works Councils.

These results, and the success of the project can be measured by a post-hoc targeted quantitative analysis on the preponderance of knowledge and interest in European Works Councils in the Malta, Estonia, and Cyprus, in the wider scope of the new accession countries and, later on, across the European Union.
